A Fresh Take on Easter Brunch

A Fresh Take on Easter Brunch

By Laura McManus, President of Mackenzie Limited and Chesapeake Bay Crab Cakes & More

Easter has a way of inviting us to slow down and savor the moment. It’s the first true gathering of spring, with most of us hoping that warmer weather accompanies the occasion. It’s a celebration of fresh flavors, lighter fare, and the simple joy of being together.

Personally, I look forward to Easter brunch all season. It’s my favorite time of day to spend conversing with family. Whether you’re hosting a relaxed gathering with family or a larger affair, it should feel effortless, beautiful, and welcoming.

The secret? Thoughtful planning, a menu that balances elegance with ease, and a few standout dishes that make the table feel special without keeping you in the kitchen all morning.

Start with a Spring-Inspired Table

Easter brunch begins with the setting. Soft pastels, fresh greenery, and natural textures create a table that feels seasonal without being overdone. A few vases of tulips or hydrangeas, linen napkins, and light, layered serving pieces go a long way.

This is a holiday that leans into simplicity, letting the colors and freshness of spring do most of the work.

Build an Easter Brunch That Feels Abundant (But Is Easy to Execute)

A well-balanced Easter brunch should feel abundant without being complicated. Think in layers: something savory, something fresh, something sweet and something indulgent.

Start with a centerpiece like a beautifully presented side of Mackenzie Scottish Smoked Salmon, a perennial favorite that anchors the table and sets the tone. From there, build out a spread that feels both thoughtful and effortless—locally sourced bagels, Savory Quiches, and a selection of show-stopping breakfast sweets like our Babka Bundt and best-selling Granny Smith Apple Coffee Cake.

Round it out with lighter additions like a crisp seasonal salad and fresh fruit to add color and your own personal touch.

This is where thoughtful shortcuts shine. Having a few ready-to-prepare favorites on hand allows you to spend less time cooking and more time hosting.

Add a Signature Spring Cocktail

No Easter brunch feels complete without something sparkling. A classic mimosa is always welcome, but a simple twist—fresh orange juice with a splash of blood orange or grapefruit, topped with champagne—adds a more refined touch.

For something a bit different, a St. Germain and champagne cocktail with a hint of lemon feels light, floral, and perfectly suited for spring. Garnish with fresh berries or mint for an effortless finishing touch.

Create Space to Enjoy It

The most memorable Easter brunches aren’t about perfection, they’re about presence. When the menu is thoughtfully prepared and the table is set with intention, you give yourself the freedom to step away from the kitchen and enjoy the morning.

Gather your guests and let the meal unfold naturally. That’s what Easter brunch is meant to feel like.
